In public

I get the majority of my crocheting done whilst on the bus. I’ve had many a conversation with a friendly granny, have figured out how to crochet standing up in rush hour and I’ve even had school kids take photos of me. Crochet is subtler to do in public than knitting as it only has one short-ish hook and there’s no click-click-clicking to annoy fellow passengers. I love it because it stops me worrying because I’m too busy counting stitches. And nothing beats the high of putting a little creature together, embroidering the face, stuffing the body, sewing on legs, arms, ears, tails – and voila! On to the next one…

My tips for crocheting in public

- Keep your wool in a tote bag to stop it rolling away from you

- Don’t forget a pen to cross off rows from your pattern, so if you get distracted, you don’t lose your place

- Carry an empty sweet tin to keep your little bits and pieces in, safety pins, eyes, buttons, and ears
