Carmen

Carmen was something of an experiment. She is 100% handmade. Her body is calico, her hair is felt, her dress is cotton. I embroidered her face by hand with satin stitch. She has a heart locket, upcycled from an old necklace of mine.

My favourite dolls when I was small were jointed, so I tried to recreate joints by sewing over her elbows and wrists and sewing her thighs and calves separately. There’s something very satisfying about a doll that moves in all the right places.

She also has lacy negligee with beaded detail, but I wont embarrass her by posting pictures on the web. I wanted her to be a thoroughly modern lady, which she certainly is.
